Long Island is a mostly suburban area, with more rural neighborhoods on the east end in Suffolk County. In the western areas, the neighborhoods are more condensed and more urbanized than Suffolk County. As you head west through Nassau County, you will run into Queens County, the eastern most borough of New York City. West of Queens County, you will find Manhattan, which is commonly called the "City that Never Sleeps" because there has never been so much to do and see in such a densely populated area.

Long Islanders have the luxury in living in mainly suburbia, but being a reasonable distance from Manhattan. Having the ability to raise a family in one of the many excellent school districts in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, yet being able to venture into Manhattan, makes Long Island a desirable place to live.

Starting from the east, we have Suffolk County, which divides into the North Fork and South Fork at the Town of Riverhead.
