Long Island Activities

There are countless Long Island activities to choose from! Whether you are looking for a day trip with the kids or something that caters more to adults, you will find everything you need to know on these pages.

So the weekend has arrived, the weather is great and you're looking for something fun to keep the kids busy and active. There are plenty of fun places to take the kids in the summer on Long Island. Activities that are educational and interactive can be found, such as the ones found at the Long Island Science Center in Riverhead. There's nothing wrong with a child learning when they don't realize they are learning because they are having fun!

By the way, don't forget to check out the page on amusement parks, paintball, arcades, and laser tag!

Petting Zoos

Long Island kids love petting zoos! We have a ton of opportunities for kids to feed the animals, or ride a pony and to just see the animals.

One very popular petting zoo is the Long Island Game Farm in Manorville, NY There are many nature trails and hundreds of animals to look at. The kids are encouraged to "touch" the animals and feed them. It is a lot of fun for the kids and at the same time they learn about the different animals and interact with them by feeding them.

In the fall you can find many Long Island October and Autumn festivals at various farms. White Post Farm has hay rides, pumpkin picking, a garden center, and a petting zoo.

If you want to explore the arts, you can experience Long Island theater and enjoy the shows which make for great evening out. There are many playhouses on Long Island. Theater performances are very entertaining and a nice alternative to NYC broadway shows. How about seeing "Sweeney Todd" at the Gateway Playhouse in Bellport? Or "Betty's Summer Vacation" at the Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor? Then there's "Carousel" at the Smithtown Performing Arts Center. Check out the page on Long Island theater to get more info.

I know Long Islanders love to shop! And many people from outside of the area visit our Long Island Malls and shopping outlets to find great bargains. There is plenty of retail stores to choose from. We have the Tanger outlets in Riverhead and Deer Park.

We have "super malls" with hundreds of stores like The Roosevelt Field mall in Westbury. There are also plenty of budget shopping centers with Target and Walmart, which are competitors.

Then there many Long Island towns which have unique stores that sell gift items, clothing, designer jeans, perfume, and other items that you don't normally find in the malls.

Villages with Main Streets and and areas with great boutiques and unique stores:

In Nassau County you can visit Freeport's "Nautical Mile" on Woodcleft Ave. or travel downtown in Glen Cove where you will find many great mom and pop shops. The Great Neck Plaza in the Village of Great Neck has tons of upscale shops and boutiques. Port Washington has great shopping as well as Rockville Centre with lots of stores and shops along Sunrise Hwy. There is also Roslyn, Sea Cliff, Cold Spring Harbor, and Oyster Bay.

In Suffolk you have Babylon Village with plenty of stores, movies, and restaurants and the area has a great atmosphere. Then there is Huntington Village near main street also with tons of shops, restaurants, movies and considered a great area to walk around. You can also walk around Northport Village, Patchogue, and Port Jefferson, to name a few.

There are many Long Island ice skating rinks for lessons or just for a fun afternoon on the ice.
