First Day Hike at Jones Beach State Park
Jan. 1 from 10:30am to 12pm
A great experience for a little exercise while getting in touch with nature on a guided seal hike. Everyone wishing to participate on the hike should gather at the Theodore Roosevelt Nature Center. Dress warm and bring your hiking shoes. For more information call (516) 785-1600.
2012 Long Island Recreational Fishing Expo
Jan. 6 - Jan. 8
The Expo takes place at North Amityville Firehouse and is presented by the New York Coalition for Recreational Fishing, Inc. All proceeds go to benefit recreational fishing on Long Island. There will be free parking. The Amityville Firehouse is at 601 North Broadway, Route 110, in Amityville, NY. Admission for adults is $8; seniors and children 12-18 is $6; under 12 is free. Seal Hike at Montauk State Park

The Vanderbilts and their Houses: From Rhode Island to Long Island
Jan. 8 at 3pm
The presentation takes place at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory's Grace Auditorium and is sponsored by the Society for the Preservation of Long Island Antiquities and the Roslyn Landmark Society. It is a lecture by David Garrard Lowe, who is considered to be one of the world's leading authorities on social criticism and architectural history. Admission is $20.00 and reservations are required. NYS Parks Winter Run Series 2012

Register for these runs: $40 until Dec. 30. and $45 after. You must register by Jan. 3rd at 6am. There will be a limit of 1,100 full series participants that are accepted. Medals and raffle prizes will be given out as well as beverages and snacks after the races. For more information, call the Long Island State Parks Recreation Dept. at (631) 321-3510.

The Patchogue Doll Fanciers Club of Long Island, Doll, Teddy Bear & Collectible Toy Show & Sale
